Term 4 2025
With a rush, Term 4, the busiest term, is upon us. Lots of good things to look forward to this term, plus making the most of our remaining time together.
This class of akonga has been a marvellous group of tamariki. They all strive to be the best they can be and we have developed a safe, secure classroom climate where each and every child looks out for everyone.
First up this term, is a visit to Tawhiti Museum. This museum is a credit to our community thanks to Nigel Ogle and his team. I have been many times myself over the years and never fail to find something new and interesting to admire.
We will be training for Athletics Sports day over the first part of the term during our PE unit 'Run, Jump, Throw'. The children will be learning correct techniques for the track and field events in regular sports competitions. The best of the best will take part in the inter-school competition 'Dixon Banner' - an historical fixture in Hawera since the year dot. I remember it as a child!
Maths is progressing smoothly, with us all much more familiar and comfortable with the programme 'Maths No Problem'.
The children are working hard in reading, we will be reading fiction and non-fiction texts this term. We will be continuing with developing their competency in reading in sections and reflecting on what they have read.
I have been thrilled with the progress most children have made in writing to communicate their learning this year as well as the awesome publishing skills they have developed.
The Year 4 children will be taking part in a Big Day Out adventure up the maunga later in the term. This promises to be full of fun and activity.
The Life Ed Bus is coming to Turuturu School in October. The content of the lessons has yet to be decided.
It will be a fully charged term, with lots of action and hard work.
Term One 2025.
PE
We are so lucky to have the heated swimming pool at school.
Most children were great at bringing their togs on Tuesdays and Thursdays so we could take advantage of the amazing pool.
The Year 5's also had swimming at the town pool on Thursdays where they learned swimming and survival skills.
We have been learning about how our bodies work and why sleep is so important for us. Many of us have difficulty getting to sleep and we have learned some important tips on what to do to help.
In Art we have done several different styles of work. Our classroom looks colourful and exciting. We have realised that good art pieces take a long time to do and mistakes can often be corrected.
Another action packed term is ahead of us this term. Lots of learning and fun activities for us to do.
Winter sports tournaments will be a regular fixture for some of our Year 5's this term.
As a class, we are focusing on the ROAR quality of resilience.
We will be learning about grit, determination, perseverance and support.
This learning will filter through all our subjects but in particular, Ready to Roar sessions and PE.
SAFETY FIRST
This term our first topic is learning about Fire Safety in the home and at school. It is important for the children to know exactly what to do if they are involved in a fire.
Then we will be exploring road safety and how we can keep safe on the busy roads around us.
In the second half of the term, as we approach Matariki/Puanga we will be learning about the significance of this new national holiday and what it means for New Zealanders.
We will have our annual Puanga breakfast with whānau and friends, so we are looking forward to that.
