Room Three 2024

Welcome to Room 3.

My name is Ms Harding, and I am the teacher in Room 3.
We are a lovely bunch of Year 4 children who love learning about the world around us.
You can check out all of the exciting things we have been doing below.

Term One 2024

Swimming was a blast this year and everyone made great progress. We spent quite a bit of time learning survival skills in the water.

The children worked hard in Art with a focus on their ancestry as we were learning our pepeha. We based one of our works on Robyn Kahukiwa's artwork 'My Ancestors are always with me'.

Another was using the koru design to represent our families. Finally, we made a mosaic collage of Mount Taranaki in reflection.

Finally, the children were fascinated by the thousands of cicada shells they were finding on the trees in the school playground, so we did a research topic about the cicada and set up a display of the shells we found.

Term Two 2024

This term our learning focus is on the kaitiakitanga (guardianship) of local places which are vulnerable to being destroyed or harmed by the actions of people.

We will be visiting Lake Rotokare - an ecosystem protected by local authorities. We will be learning about how we personally can contribute to looking after habitats in our own environment.

Matariki is a highlight of the winter term and is on Friday 28 June this year. We will be celebrating with a shared meal of some sort and we will be looking at what this special day means to New Zealanders.

For PE this term we will be learning valuable skills for winter sports and what it means to be a team member.

Reece and Luca volunteered to do a welcome speech to our guests at our Matariki breakfast in both English and Te Reo Maori.

Term Three 2024

This term our learning is going to be about Farming. So where does our food come from?

How is it made? Who produces the ingredients? Hmmm!

Living in the heart of dairy farmland, I am hoping to arrange a visit to a dairy farm and to Fonterra cheese factory to add  more interest to the learning.
